Your Child’s First Dentist Visit

A baby’s first dentist visit can be both exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. For that reason, this blog is going to look at what a first dentist appointment might look like for both the child and the mother.

It is a good idea to bring your baby to the dentist at either 1 year old or 6 months after the baby’s first tooth comes in. This first visit might purely be to help build a relationship between the baby and dentist and if the dentist decides to do a quick look, they may have the parent hold the baby in their lap.

This first check up can indicate a lot to a dentist about how the teeth are going to come, what kid of bite the baby might and other factors that could indicate an issue in the future.

The dentist may want to talk to the parent about these things at the first visit as well as educate the parent about the baby and any good oral hygiene practices the parent my need to know, fluoride needs, oral habits and how to avoid them (thumb sucking), developmental milestones, teething, proper nutrition, and dental check up frequencies.

There is nothing to be worried about when it comes to your child’s first dentist visit, dentists are here to help!
